Due to this injury, she suffered from severe pain in her lower back and ended up putting on thirty kilograms by the time she was twenty one years old.
Taking doctors' advice, Shreya picks up the workout after a break she takes due to her slip disc. Shreya Chaudhry has gained much popularity after her captivating performance in Bandis Bandits. In addition to that, she now serves as a guiding light to those who are suffering from slip disc, as Shreya Chaudhry lost 30 kgs post slip disc injury at the age of 19. As she was required to stay still, even the slightest movement became a hurdle for her, which later resulted in her weight gain of 30 plus kg. Despite all odds she remained persistent and steadfast in her weight loss endeavors, as a result her journey is extremely inspiring.
Shreya has recently opened up about the fitness obstacles she went through that could have ruined her acting career with the help of social media. She has discussed her personal life challenges that disrupted her in achieving her fitness goals.
“Having my family do everything for me, such as going to the gym, while I’m lying at home instead – I know that this will not work for long,” she wrote on Instagram, adding, “‘I remember lying on the bed one fine day and telling myself that I had to take care of myself – Gentle Self care. It was time I put my mental and physical health first, for the sake of my life and ambitions.”
Started off by recovering from an injury
Shreya, however, did maintain that while exercising, she was conscious of the utmost care that was taken after her back problem. This, according to her, was sensible and reasonable since such a problem is likely to have occurred to her previously.
“I did work hard on my fitness and well-being for many, many long months and when I was 21 years old, my body and mind were entirely refreshed and in a different mode. In a gradual manner, I lost 30 kilos and thankfully, the slipped disc did not recur, which meant there was no need to panic as I could solely concentrate on getting even fitter,” she said.
What is a slip disc?
A disc that has moved out of its correct position within the spine is sometimes referred to as a herniated disc or more commonly as a slipped disc, it can be extremely painful and make movement difficult, and occasionally even necessitate surgical intervention.
The human body has 33 vertebrae which are divided into 5 sections comprising; cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum and coccyx. Each of these sections protect nerves and aid mobility of the body by having joint discs in between them. These discs act as shock-absorbers during movement, twisting, or lifting. A slipped disc occurs due to injury or weakness of the thinned area of a disc, resulting in the inner core of the disc to thrust through the peripheral ring.
What are the safe exercises for herniated or slipped discs?
Exercise specialists recommend low-impact exercises, gentle stretching and other activities to help alleviate pain caused by a herniated disc. Stretching the neck, back, and hamstrings can help to improve flexibility and reduce the risk of a herniated disc from developing.
Hamstring workouts may be helpful, as well, as these workouts involve stretching the hamstring muscles that relieve tightness in the lower back and legs. Neck stretches can also be beneficial in relieving neck strain. Over time, compressing nerves in the neck can lead to discomfort in the neck and shoulder area.
Performing physical exercises that are not intense, according to the specialists, supports the musculature of the spine and reduces the load on the vertebral column. They also improve flexibility and may help prevent future occurrences of a herniated disk. A herniated disc can also be managed by performing low intensity tasks such as:
Yogic exercise.
Taking a swim.
Going for a walk.
Ride a bicycle.
