Worried fans of Rohit Sharma’s believe that his career in Indian cricket might be over after the miserable performances in New Zealand and Australia test matches, coupled with dropping abysmal scores in both the matches. It got to such a point where Rohit himself decided to not perform in the fifth test against Australia in Sydney. Until now, Rohit Sharma’s been a cricketer with immense knowledge of the game, nuff of ignoring cricketing commonsense, everyone thought and many backed him to make a retirement after the Border-Gavaskar video was aired, however now speculation says different, he wants to keep participating in the test matches.

“Rohit will be invited around the time for selection. The selectors will announce the squad on 20th Jan around the time they start looking for other players” a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told PTI.

Rohit is putting in considerable effort towards his fitness for which he even reported to the Mumbai Ranji practice that fuelled speculation of his comeback in the domestic circuit, though no formal talks between MCA and Rohit have occurred.

Following India’s series loss to Australia, coach Gautam Gambhir asked the players to participate in domestic leagues to display their commitment to the Irani Test format.

“In an ideal world, I would want every single a player to play domestic cricket because that is the level of significance that must be given to it,” Gambhir states. “It’s not just one game. If they are ready and if there’s the intention, they need to play Ranji in all forms. It’s that straightforward. If any player doesn’t respect the rote, they will never become the visioned player.”

At the same time, a number of Indian players have expressed their willingness to participate in the Ranji Trophy whenever they are not on international duty. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant are set to play their next Ranji Trophy matches with their respective squads.
