Singapore: Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh on Thursday won the World Chess Champion title by defeating defending champion Ding Liren of China in a thrilling 14th and final game. Gukesh won the title by winning the last classical game of this 14-game match with the required 7.5 points against Liren's 6.5.

He became the youngest world chess champion at the age of 18. However, this match seemed to be heading towards a draw most of the time. Before Gukesh's title win on Thursday, Russian legend Garry Kasparov was the youngest world chess champion who won the title at the age of 22 in 1985 by defeating Anatoly Karpov.
Gukesh became the youngest player to challenge for the world title after winning the Candidates Tournament earlier this year. He is the second Indian to win a global title after the legendary Vishwanathan Anand. Five-time world champion Anand lost the world championship title in 2013.
Who is D Gukesh?
Domaraju Gukesh was born in Chennai on 6 May 2006. He started playing chess at the age of seven. He loved playing chess so much that he gave up further studies after class four. Indian chess grandmaster Gukesh's father is an ENT surgeon and his mother Padma is a microbiologist.
According to media reports, Gukesh will now get an amount of 11 crores if he wins the World Championship title. After this championship, his net worth is believed to be around 20 crores. Gukesh also earns lakhs of rupees from chess prize money and brand endorsements.

After winning the World Chess Championship, D Gukesh said, "I was dreaming of this moment for the last 10 years. I am happy that my dream has come true. I got a little emotional because I did not expect to win. But then I got a chance to move forward."
