The Indian cricket team was rampaged in the recent 5 match test Border-Gavaskar series with a 3-1 lead in Australia with their batters not showing any promising results.

Because of such poor performance, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) suggested Indian players to take part in the domestic circuit in order to get back in form.

Speculations are now growing that former India captain Virat Kohli may play for his domestic team Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. And while there is no veracity on this yet, let us take a glance at Kohli’s record in the Ranji history.

As Kohli made his entry into the Indian team at 20, Chetan Sharma’s season debut limited his chances in the domestic circuit. However, his exceptional performances in the Ranji Trophy were decisive enough to catch the attention of the selectors who ensured him of a place in the Indian cricket team.

Virat Kohli's Ranji Trophy History

Taking the stage with Delhi in the year 2006, Virat Kohli’s last game in the Ranji tournament dates back to the year 2012. Over a span of 23 matches, he managed to score a total of 1,574 runs with an average of 50.77, with total five centuries scored by him. A memory Kohli won’t forget and one of his best seasons was in 2009/10 when he scored 374 runs over a span of 3 matches. Achievements such as these made a mark in his career allowing him to debut as a Test player for India in 2011.

In the Australia series, he was unable to secure much of an achievement as he only secured 190 runs out of five test matches.

Technical issues do arise when a batsman is constantly being dismissed from deliveries off the outer stump, a reorganization is a must, without a doubt. In order to resolve the issues, the Ranji Trophy serves as a great helping hand alongside crafting his technique and enhancing his confidence.

With age on his side he still is fit and experienced therefore for the next two years if India requires a player Hy will do wonders, particularly in the red ball context. If he did manage to get his hands on a strong domestic season it could spell a great deal of change in his current form.
