Air India: Budget airline company Air India Express (AIX) Connect as well as flight code 'I5' will become history next week. The company is going to merge with Air India Express. A senior company official has said that the merger process has been going on for almost a year and everything is on track.

Another official said AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) will shut down after flying for 11 years. The aircraft registered under its air operating certification (AOC) will be transferred to the AOC of Air India Express under the legal merger, which will come into effect in the first week of October.

Air India Express Connect operates 400 flights.

Currently, Air India Express and AIX Connect operate around 400 flights per day. There are plans to expand operations in the coming months. Its fleet consists of 88 aircraft, including 61 Boeing 737 NG and Max and 27 A320 CEO and Neo.

With the legal merger, all flights of erstwhile AIX Connect will be operated with Air India Express' airline code - 'IX' and will no longer have the code 'I5', the official said.

Vistara and Air India to merge in November.

The official said that a 'war room' has been working for the last three months to ensure the smooth running of the merger as the process involves many stakeholders including lessors and airports. He said that this process will also be a model for the future. Both Tata Group companies - Vistara and Air India are to be merged in November.
