Stock Market Today: The Indian stock market set a new record on Thursday. All major indices closed in the green due to strong buying in metal, auto, and banking stocks.

At the end of the day, the Sensex rose 1,439 points (1.77 percent) to close at 82,962 and the Nifty rose 470 points (1.89 percent) to close at 25,388. Both indices hit new record levels during the day's trade, with the Sensex hitting a new high of 83,116 and the Nifty hitting a new high of 25,433.

Along with largecap, midcap and smallcap stocks also saw a rise. The Nifty Midcap 100 index rose 702 points (1.19 percent) to close at 59,640 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose 192 points (1.01 percent) to close at 19,354.

NTPC, Bharti Airtel, M&M, Wipro, JSW Steel, Tech Mahindra, SBI, L&T, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, UltraTech Cement and HUL were the major gainers on the Sensex. Only Nestle was in a loss on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

On Thursday, almost all the major indexes remained in the green. Auto, IT, PSU, Fin Services, Pharma, Metal, and Energy indexes saw the highest gains. Nifty Bank closed at 51,772 with a gain of 762 points (1.49 percent).

Narendra Solanki, Head of Research, Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers, said that the new record of Nifty was made due to buying in large-cap stocks. Apart from this, the news of China cutting the rates of 5 trillion dollar loans by 50 basis points before the policy meeting of the European Central Bank (ECB) also supported the market.
