The veteran Indian actress Shabana Azmi was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the 16th International Film Festival that took place in Bengaluru. She also received a reward of Rs 10 lakh. Akhtar came along to celebrate alongside is wife Azmi. Siddaramaiah later on took to social media to share pictures of the couple.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recalled Shabana Azmi's work and said, “We love Mile Sur Mera Tumhara. I have seen you in it. It is enjoyable. You are a great actress.” Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi expressed admiration for Karnataka's astonishing cultural and musical tradition. In reply the Chief Minister said Dharwad is known for great Hindustani classical musicians like Bhimsen Joshi, Kumar Gandharva and Gangubai Hangal who are all from there. The 16th International Film Festival was held at the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy on the behalf of Government of Karnataka.

Movies from 60 nations opened at 11 venues simultaneously

Over 200 feature films from 60 different nations were shown at PVR cinemas Orion mall for the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival. Secretary of the Government Kaveri, Chief Ministers media advisor KV Prabhakar, and commarison for Information and public relations Shreemant Nimbalkar were present at the festival in receipt of Indian actress Shabana Azmi, accompanied by her husband Javed Akhtar. Addidtional chief secretary LK Attiq, President of Karnataka Chalachitra Academy Sadhu Kokila and artistic director of 16th international film festival Vidya Shankhar were also present. Gurudutt, Raj Kapoor, Ritwik Ghatak and the famous Kannada actor KS Ashwath were commemorated during the festival.
