Mumbai: After the crushing 3-0 defeat against New Zealand, Indian captain Rohit Sharma took responsibility for the defeat and said that he failed as a captain and a batsman. Rohit said that it is not easy to digest this defeat. India had a target of 147 runs to win in the second innings. But the Indian team collapsed for 121 runs in front of the deadly bowling of Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel (six wickets). Australia's team topped the World Test Championship points table.
In the first two matches, India was not able to put up a big score in the first innings. Although India got a lead in the first innings in Mumbai, once again the Indian top order failed in the second innings. Only four half-centuries came from the top four in this entire series.
Rohit said after the match on Sunday, "Obviously losing a Test, losing a series is never easy. We did not play good cricket and we accept it. New Zealand played much better cricket than us. We made a lot of mistakes and we all have to accept it."
Rohit said, "We did not put enough runs on the scoreboard in the first innings, so we were behind in the match. But here we had a lead of about 30 runs in the first innings and we felt we were ahead in the match. This target was achievable, we could have done better."
Rohit also disappointed in batting in this series. Only one half-century came from his bat in Bangalore. However, Rohit said that as a batsman he failed to implement his plans. Along with this, he also praised Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar.
Rohit said, “When I go to bat, I have specific plans in mind, but in this series, the result did not go in my favor which is very disappointing. (Gill, Pant, and Washington) They told us how to bat on this pitch.”
The Indian captain further said, "We know how to bat here but things did not go in our favor in this series. I could not give my best in both captaincy and batting, which will bother me. But we also did not perform well collectively and all this became the reason for the defeat."
