India finally lifted the ICC trophy in ODI format on 09 March. They beat New Zealand to capture the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title. The team performed like champions throughout the tournament and did not lose a single match from the group stage to the finals. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul made key contributions during the group stage matches. Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma saved his best for the big day and scored 76 runs in the final to help achieve the target of 252 runs on a tough batting pitch.

Rohit Sharma's Special Record Was Made To His Name

Sharma etched his name in the record books after scoring 76 runs in the finals Rohit earned the Player of the Match (POTM) award after his remarkable innings. At this point, Rohit became the oldest alive man to win ‘Player of the match’ in the finals of an ICC ODI tournament. As it stands, he is the oldest player in the history of ODI tournaments to have won 'Player of the match' award after 37 years of age. Rohit earned this title at the age of 37 years 313 days. On the other hand, Gilchrist earned the award at 35 years and 165 days after his phenomenal 149 runs off 104 balls in the finals versus Sri Lanka for the 2007 ODI World Cup.

Rohit’s Indian team also won the second ICC title under his captaincy.
