New Delhi. In the auction held in Jeddah for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), this time Mumbai's young batsman Suryansh Shedge was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) at his base price. Then seeing the lack of interest of other teams in Shedge, it seemed that only Punjab knows the real identity of Shedge and not others and within 17 days of the auction, this batsman has done that feat and proved why Punjab had expressed confidence in him.
Shedge, who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket, has shown that he is fully ready as a match finisher by hitting a quick 36 runs in just 12 balls in the quarter-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2024) and Punjab has not made any mistake by bidding on him.
In the match played between Mumbai and Vidarbha in Alur, Karnataka, Mumbai had got the challenge of 222 runs. Before Shedge, Ajinkya Rahane (84 runs, just 45 balls) and Prithvi Shaw (49 runs, just 26 balls), who came to open the innings, laid a strong base for the team. However, captain Shreyas Iyer (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (9) flopped in the middle order.
After this, Shivam Dubey scored an unbeaten 37 runs off 22 balls and Shedge himself took the responsibility of making a blast with him. He hit an unbeaten 36 runs in his 12-ball innings with 1 four and 4 sixes and gave his team a ticket to the semi-finals by winning with 4 balls remaining.
Earlier, Shedge impressed the experts by showing his batting prowess in the Round of 16 of this tournament. He then made a useful contribution in the lower order for Mumbai by scoring an unbeaten 30 off 8 balls against Andhra. There Mumbai successfully chased another 200 runs. Now fans are expecting a similar performance from him in the semi-finals and finals, so that from the start of IPL next year, he can make a place in the playing XI of Punjab Kings and play the role of a match finisher.
