Pitru Paksha 2024: Pitru Paksha is considered to be of special importance in Hinduism and it has also been mentioned in many texts. It is said that Yamraj sends the ancestors to earth for 15 days so that they can accept their tarpan. These 15 days of Pitru Paksha are considered very important. If the ancestors are offered tarpan with rituals during this time, then their soul gets peace and they go back to their world happily. According to the Vedic calendar, today i.e. 27th of September is the Dashami date of Pitru Paksha and on this day the Shradh Karma is performed for those people whose last rites were performed on Dashami Tithi. How to offer water to the ancestors?
While performing Shradh rituals, water should be correctly offered to the ancestors. Only then do their soul get peace. During this, Jalanjali is offered on the Pindas through the thumb. Offering water to ancestors with the thumb gives peace to their souls. Before offering water, do meditate on your ancestors and forefathers. After this, offer water. According to Hindu religious scriptures, while offering water to ancestors in Pitru Paksha, do take the name of your Gotra.
Who can give water?
During Pitru Paksha, the eldest son of the family performs the Shraddha of the ancestors. In such a case, he also offers water there. If he is married, then his wife must be present at the time of Shraddha.
Rules of Shraddha
On the day of Shraddha, only satvik food should be prepared at home, garlic and onion should not be used in it even by mistake. While performing the Shraddha Karma of ancestors, feeding a Brahmin brings merit. Along with this, a portion of food must be kept aside for crows, cows, dogs, and ants.
