Pakistan’s journey in the Champions Trophy 2025 has been nothing short of a disaster. The biggest setback for the team has been the injuries to key players, which have severely hampered their performance. Even before the tournament began, star opener Saim Ayub was ruled out due to injury. Adding to their woes, Fakhar Zaman suffered an injury in Pakistan’s very first match, forcing him out of the entire tournament.

Since then, rumors have been swirling about Fakhar’s future, with speculations that he might retire from international cricket.

Fakhar Zaman Responds to Retirement Rumors

Amidst all the buzz, Fakhar Zaman has finally spoken up about his retirement speculations. In a conversation with PCB Digital, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, Fakhar dismissed the rumors, stating that there is no truth to them. He revealed that his friends had sent him numerous messages regarding his retirement, but he has no plans to quit cricket.

Fakhar emphasized that ODI cricket remains his favorite format, and he intends to continue playing T20s, ODIs, and even Test cricket. However, he admitted that his return to the field might take some time due to a thyroid-related issue. He confirmed that he has consulted doctors and, if everything goes well, he should be fit to play again within a month.

Fakhar’s Absence from International Cricket

Fakhar Zaman has been missing from international action since Pakistan’s early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, which was held in the USA and the West Indies. His last ODI appearance was during the 2023 ODI World Cup, where Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Although he was included in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, his tournament was cut short due to injury in the opening match.

Pakistan Knocked Out of Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan’s hopes in the Champions Trophy 2025 were officially crushed after their six-wicket loss to India. Fakhar’s replacement, Imam-ul-Haq, has struggled to make an impact with the bat. The team’s poor batting performances have been a major factor in their downfall.

In their opening match, Pakistan suffered a 60-run defeat against New Zealand. In the much-anticipated clash against India, they failed to put up a competitive total. Slow batting from key players further hurt their chances—Babar Azam managed just 64 runs off 90 balls against New Zealand, while captain Mohammad Rizwan scored a sluggish 46 runs from 77 balls in the match against India.

With their campaign now over, Pakistan will have to reflect on their performance and rebuild for the future. Will Fakhar Zaman’s return help them bounce back? Only time will tell.
