Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, on Thursday visited a leading Singaporean company in the semiconductor and electronics sector and discussed ways of cooperation in this crucial industry.
Modi is on a two-day visit to Singapore at Wong's invitation of Wong.
In a press statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders visited AEM Holdings Limited where they were briefed on the company's role in the global semiconductor value chain, its operations, and its plans for India.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal informed on the social media platform 'X', "Promoting relations in the field of advanced manufacturing ... Prime Minister Narendra Modi and (Singapore's) Prime Minister Lawrence Wong today visited AEM Holdings Limited, Singapore's leading company in the semiconductor and electronics sector.
According to the statement, the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association informed about the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the country and opportunities for cooperation with India.
It said that given our efforts to develop the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India and Singapore's expertise in this field...both sides have decided to expand bilateral cooperation. During the second India-Singapore ministerial roundtable meeting, both sides agreed to promote upgraded manufacturing with a focus on semiconductors as a pillar to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The two sides also finalized the Memorandum of Understanding on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership, the statement said.
"PM Narendra Modi and (Singapore's) PM Lawrence Wong, during their visit to AEM Holdings Limited, interacted with Indian trainees from World Skills Centre, Odisha, Singaporean trainees who visited India under CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme and Indian engineers working at AEM," Jaiswal wrote on X.
The visit to the company by the two leaders underlines the commitment of both sides to cooperation in this sector.
The statement said that Modi appreciated Prime Minister Wong for visiting AEM Holdings Limited with him.
Prime Minister Modi also invited semiconductor companies from Singapore to participate in the Semicon India exhibition to be held in Greater Noida from 11th to 13th September.
Modi has reached Singapore after completing his visit to Brunei.
