What is Electric Highway: If you also have an electric vehicle or are planning to buy one, then this news is useful for you. Yes, you are going to be very happy with the new plan of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Gadkari said in a program organized by a news channel in Mumbai that the government is planning to build an electric highway from Delhi to Jaipur. Earlier also, he has mentioned the Delhi-Jaipur Electric Highway in different programs.

Work is being done on developing electric highways.

An electric highway is a network of roads or highways equipped with charging infrastructure specially designed for electric vehicles (EVs). These highways usually feature charging systems along the route to make long-distance travel more convenient for electric vehicle drivers. A news published in ET recently also claimed that the government is working on a plan to develop electric highways along the Golden Quadrilateral in an effort to reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emissions through electrification of intercity public transport.

Target to build 6,000 km of electric highways
It was claimed in the news that the central government has a target of building 6,000 km of electric highways. The project is to be started in the next seven years, to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility and facilitate the deployment of electric buses across the country. E-highways will feature charging infrastructure powered by green energy. This initiative is part of the 2030 - PM Public Transport Service Program.

Plan to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles.
Media reports claimed that the development of electric highways is likely to happen simultaneously with the entry of electric buses, which will accelerate the establishment of an ecosystem for EVs in India. The new e-highways are expected to speed up the development of charging infrastructure, which will encourage more and more people to buy electric vehicles for daily travel.

Electric car sales
rose to 83,000 units last year, against a sales target of 1 lakh. Many first-time buyers have been hesitant to choose electric vehicles as their primary mode of transport, primarily due to concerns over range and inadequate charging infrastructure in the country. As a result, consumers have viewed EVs as a secondary or tertiary option rather than a primary vehicle.

Gadkari also said that the government is planning to make the country the world leader in biofuel. He also announced that the central government is working on a pilot project for an electric trolley bus in Nagpur, which is expected to reduce ticket prices by 30 percent.
