Perth: Team India has started tightening its grip in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. On Saturday, the second day of the first Test match being played at Optus Stadium in Perth, India's opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul broke a 20-year-old record on Australian soil.
In the first innings of the match, the Indian team was all out for only 150 runs. However, after this, they made a brilliant comeback in bowling and bundled out Australia for 104 runs.
In the second innings, the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul started cautiously and made a century partnership for the first wicket. As soon as both the batsmen made a century partnership for the first wicket, a 20-year-old record in Australia was broken. Earlier, the record for a century partnership for the first wicket in Australia was between Akash Chopra and Virender Sehwag, which they did in 2004.
This is Jaiswal's 10th fifty-plus score in the year 2024. He has become the batsman to score the most fifty-plus scores this year. While Jaiswal completed his half-century, KL Rahul also scored his 16th fifty in Tests.
This is only the third time in 14 years that the Indian opening pair has made a partnership of more than 100 runs in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries. The interesting thing is that KL Rahul has been a part of that partnership all three times. This is only the sixth time that India's opening pair has made a century partnership on Australian soil.
