Once hailed as a blue-eyed talent in Bollywood, Jugal Hansraj returned to the big screen after nearly a decade with the Karan Johar-produced film Nadaniyaan. The film starred newcomers Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, but its weak storyline and underwhelming performances attracted heavy trolling on social media.

Despite limited screen appearances since 2016, Hansraj played a supporting role in the film alongside seasoned actors such as Dia Mirza and Mahima Chaudhary. All were subjected to criticism over the film's execution and casting choices.

Hansraj on the Nature of Online Criticism

Addressing the backlash, Hansraj emphasized the difference between constructive criticism and personal attacks. “Criticism should be constructive. If it comes from someone experienced in cinema, it can be useful for growth,” he said.

He also condemned the rise of harsh, often personal comments on social media, calling them "stupid and trivial." He added, “If something doesn’t work for someone, they should say so respectfully rather than acting as if they know everything.”

Reflecting on Industry Changes and Young Actors

Hansraj pointed out that actors in the 1980s were given time and space to grow without facing instant backlash. “Back then, there was no social media. Newcomers had the opportunity to evolve quietly,” he said.

Referring to the recent criticism faced by Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, he argued that personal attacks on actors’ appearances and capabilities serve no purpose. “Feedback is helpful when it guides improvement. But when it becomes about personal traits, it loses value,” he added.
