Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has emerged victorious in the long-running legal battle with actress Kangana Ranaut. After five years of court proceedings, both parties have reached a mutual settlement, bringing an end to their legal dispute. As part of the agreement, Kangana has apologized for any inconvenience her statements may have caused Akhtar.

In the written terms of the settlement, Kangana expressed her respect for Javed Akhtar and stated:

"I have immense respect for Javed Akhtar. I sincerely apologize for any distress my statements may have caused him. I take back all my statements and assure that I will not make such remarks in the future."

The Background of the Case

The legal battle began when Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut. In response, the actress also filed a counter-petition. Over the last five years, the case saw nearly 40 hearings, during which Kangana was often absent from court, while Javed Akhtar remained consistently present.

Earlier this week, during a scheduled hearing, Kangana once again failed to appear, prompting Akhtar’s legal team to request a non-bailable warrant against her. However, the court granted her one last opportunity to be present before finalizing the settlement.

As part of the resolution, Kangana acknowledged:

  1. The controversy arose due to a misunderstanding.
  2. She takes back all her previous statements.
  3. She will refrain from making such remarks in the future.
  4. She sincerely apologizes for any distress caused to Javed Akhtar.
