German semiconductor company Infineon has signed a milestone agreement with CDIL Semiconductors to supply silicon wafers for power chip manufacturing in India, company officials confirmed on Thursday.

Under this collaboration, Infineon will supply blank semiconductor wafers to CDIL, which will process, assemble, and package them to manufacture power chipsets. This partnership marks a significant step in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Power Chipsets for Key Industries

The power chipsets developed through this collaboration will be used in:

  • Power inverters
  • Solar technology
  • Automotive applications
  • Renewable energy solutions

According to CS Chua, Chairman and MD, Asia Pacific, Infineon Technologies, "Infineon will provide silicon to CDIL. India is a huge and strategic market where we need local partners like CDIL who understand the region’s requirements. This is our first agreement of this kind in India."

About CDIL Semiconductors

Established in 1964, Continental Devices India (CDIL) is India’s first semiconductor manufacturer specializing in discrete semiconductors and silicon carbide devices. The company plays a crucial role in advancing India’s semiconductor industry.

CDIL Chairman Pankaj Gulati highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “By integrating Infineon’s world-class wafer technology with CDIL’s advanced OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) capabilities, we are setting new benchmarks in innovation and localization. This collaboration not only drives innovation but also accelerates the ‘Make in India’ initiative, positioning India as a global semiconductor center of excellence.”
