Hyderabad: India's young all-rounder Washington Sundar won the Indian cricket team's 'Impact Fielder' award for his brilliant fielding in the recently concluded T20 series against Bangladesh. Washington left behind Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag in the race for this award. India's fielding coach T Dilip praised Washington's excellent improvement in fielding and said that he looked like a different player while fielding.
Sanju Samson hit a superb century as India defeated Bangladesh by 133 runs in the third match to win the T20I series 3-0 and complete a 5-0 clean sweep in the Test and T20I series.
Pandya was Dilip's number-one contender. The fielding coach compared his energy on the field to a 'Formula One car in top gear'. Parag was the second contender because he made even the toughest catches look very easy. But Washington left both of them behind with his accurate fielding on the boundary line. He took three catches in the series and bowled at an excellent economy rate of just five runs per over.
After receiving the medal from Jitesh Sharma, Washington said, "It really feels amazing. Whenever I am on the field, I try to give my 100 percent. Whatever the situation, every player can contribute on the field. I am grateful for this award. I thank Dilip Sir and other members of the support staff."
