Gold-Silver Price Today 17 Feb 2025: The prices of gold and silver have started to decline. On Monday, gold prices dropped to Rs 85,254 per 10 grams from the previous closing price of Rs 85,998. Similarly, silver prices also fell, reaching Rs 95,046 per kilogram from Rs 97,953.

Understanding Gold Hallmarking
When purchasing gold jewelry, it is essential to check for the hallmark, which verifies the purity of gold. Here is how hallmarking works:
22-carat gold (used in jewelry) is 91.6% pure.
Some jewelers may sell adulterated gold at 89% or 90% purity under the name of 22-carat gold.
Hallmark indications:
375: 37.5% pure gold
585: 58.5% pure gold
750: 75.0% pure gold
916: 91.6% pure gold
990: 99.0% pure gold
999: 99.9% pure gold
How to Check Gold Hallmarking
Each carat level of gold has a specific hallmark:
24 carat: 999
23 carat: 958
22 carat: 916
21 carat: 875
18 carat: 750
