From district level to becoming ICC chairman...see in pictures how has been Jai Shah's journey so far
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the next chairman of the ICC. At 35, Jay Shah will be the youngest administrator to hold this post. It is not yet decided where Jay Shah will be placed when India's cricket administrators are evaluated based on their contribution to the game, but it will remain undisputed that he has quite comfortably made a place for himself in the corridors of power first at the national and now at the global level.

The journey started in 2009
Shah's formal entry into cricket administration came in 2009 when he started working at the district level with the Central Cricket Board Ahmedabad CBCA. He then moved to state-level administration as an executive of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and eventually became its joint secretary in 2013.

There is good coordination between senior and young players
In Shah's case, whether it is captain Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli, bowling attack leader Jasprit Bumrah, or second-line players like Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, he manages to strike a chord with all those who want to be heard. After India's T20 World Cup win in the West Indies this year, Rohit even called Shah one of the 'three pillars' that made the win possible.

Successful conduct of cricket during Covid-19
When one looks at Shah's five-year tenure, he had to go through a very challenging phase for two years 2020 and 2021 when Covid-19 shook the world and everything came to a halt. Overseeing the creation of bio bubbles during the IPL, handling positive cases by creating medical teams within those bubbles, and ensuring the full conduct of tournaments were among the hurdles he overcame.

Women's Premier League kicks off
Shah's biggest achievement will be the launch of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Under her leadership, two consecutive successful seasons of the WPL were organized and the icing on the cake was that this league is giving the highest amount of contracts in women's T20 cricket. Her predecessors ignored this aspect of women's cricket.

Uniform match fees – a historic decision
His decision to ensure equality for the Indian women's cricket team by paying them equal match fees of Rs 15 lakh per Test, Rs 8 lakh per ODI, and Rs 4 lakh per T20 match for players in the playing XI was a step in the right direction.

Encouragement of test cricket
Another policy decision was to promote Test cricket. India will play a 10-Test season this year and if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play all the matches, they will get a match fee of Rs 6 crore (Rs 60 lakh per match) including Rs 45 lakh as an incentive.

India gets new National Cricket Academy
Another of Shah's achievements is the construction of the new National Cricket Academy, a center of excellence that can host multiple first-class matches at a single venue during the domestic season.
