However, due to protests by Sikh organizations, the matter reached the Censor Board and the High Court. Now the producers of the film are ready to make cuts in the film as per the suggestions of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The latest information is that 'Emergency' is now set to be released in Punjab after the elections. According to a report by 'India Today', the makers of 'Emergency' are planning to release the film after the elections. Apart from being the lead actress of this film, Kangana Ranaut is also its director and co-producer. Kangana Ranaut has played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.

The report quoted a source from the production as saying, 'After meeting all the conditions of the censor board, it will be released after the Punjab elections. This film is close to all of our hearts and the audience should definitely watch it. So after a lot of deliberation and to avoid hurting anyone's feelings, the entire team decided that its release date would be decided after the elections were over. For now, releasing the film in a calm time is the best decision.
