Historical and Religious Significance of Dhari Devi Temple
The temple is situated near Dharo village and is believed to date back to the Dwapar Yuga.
According to legend, a flood washed away the idol of the goddess, which then stopped near a rock by Dharo village.
A divine voice instructed villagers to install the idol at the current location, leading to the start of the temple’s worship tradition.

One of the most extraordinary aspects of Dhari Devi Temple is the daily transformation of the idol’s appearance:
Morning: The goddess appears as a young girl.
Afternoon: She transforms into a young woman.
Evening: Her form shifts to that of an elderly lady.

2013 Flood and Dhari Devi’s Idol Removal
On June 16, 2013, the idol was removed from its original place due to a hydroelectric project. That very evening, devastating floods hit Uttarakhand, leading to massive destruction and loss of life.
Locals firmly believe the calamity was a result of divine anger, reinforcing their faith in the goddess's protective powers.
Connection Between Dhari Devi and Kalimath Temple
Dhari Devi Temple is believed to house the head of Goddess Kali.
Kalimath Temple, another significant Shakti Peeth, is where her torso is worshipped.
While Dhari Devi is the guardian of Char Dhams, Kalimath is a key center for Tantric practices.
