Deepika Padukone has celebrated Larsen and Toubro chairman SN Subrahmanyan's comments about Sunday work hours at their Martin Bay Hotel Christchurch property. As a mental health advocate, DP also had a strong reaction to the entire drama that transpired around Subrahmanyan's remarks.
Deepika's reaction
Deepika responded to the social media influencers complex with her own post on Instagram revealing that “Shocking to see people in such senior positions make such statements. #MentalHealthMatters.”
Subrahmanyan explains in the video how for him there are three days in a week which one is unable to work and that Sunday is considered a rest day. In his book comments while speaking about Sundays he said ‘I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be more happy because I work o Sundays,’ and few sessions were shared on reddit.
The taunts the employees received due to their 'downtime at home' were absolutely unnecessary and questionable. The chairman's outburst did incense a lot of people who had a bone to pick with the 'office culture' he expected people to have. For context, here's what he had said about it, "What do you do sitting at home? How long can you look at your wife? Come on, get to the office and start working."
That single clip of the chairman has led to a flurry of debates about work-life balance, employee expectations, and professionalism in multi-billion dollar companies.
Let’s hear L&T’s side
A spokesperson for Larsen & Toubro responded to HT.com by stating, “The use of ‘building a nation’ is an understatement considering the fact that we have been transforming India’s infrastructure, industries and technology for more than 8 decades.”
“This decade is India’s decade, and in order for a nation to be considered as ‘developed’ this nation needs to put in tremendous time and effort. And everyone's vision needs to align. And the Chairman's comments were in sync with this larger goal set out which is that time needs time.
“There is always a balance between focus, commitment, and consistent effort and the ability to work together and be able to do great things."
