Hence, investing in mental health is essential if one wants to ensure productivity and happiness across various sectors.” The allocation to the healthcare sector during the Union Budget 2024-25 stood at around Rs. 90659 crores, which was almost 2% more than the allocation for the previous fiscal year. The sad part is that mental health issues and programs only received less than 1% of this budget. “The government can take important steps towards improving the national wellbeing by helping out people suffering with mental issues, particularly, postpartum depression by setting up effective campaigns and increasing the resources available. These investments would not only serve to improve individual’s standard of living but would be of great assistance to the nation as a whole,” Thakur noted.

Fostering Innovation Along With Enhancement Of Availability

Debojyoti Dhar, Co-founder and Director, Leucine Rich Bio when addressing the forthcoming budget expressed hope that rapid enhancement of innovation and bettering of accessibility of measures would be sought by the Healthtech and Diagnostics sector.

“There are a few actionable steps that can greatly improve how we serve our patients – first, the authorities should boost policies around infrastructure for digital health, second, encourage research and development that goes into diagnostics, third, provide tax breaks to companies that invest in high-end technologies like genomics and microbiome solutions – all these would result in life-altering changes in how healthcare is provided. Similarly, establishing partnerships with communities and developing capacity for underserved populations’ diagnostic tests would guarantee that breakthroughs in health good delivery would be available in all regions of the country. If there was such a budget Indian healthcare would be considered a world leader in personalized prevention,” opined Dhar.
