Dubai: The ICC has made a big decision regarding the organization of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The apex body of cricket has now shifted this tournament from Bangladesh to another country. The ICC had handed over the hosting of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 to Bangladesh, but after the political coup going on there for the last few years, this tournament has now been shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This decision was taken in the ICC meeting on Tuesday.
This decision was taken after a meeting of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials with the ICC. The BCB has given its consent to hold the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE. However, Bangladesh will remain the host. The tournament will be held in two venues in the UAE - Dubai and Sharjah from 3 to 20 October 2024.
Earlier, the ICC had approached India to host the ninth edition of the tournament, but the BCCI refused to host the tournament. Although Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka had also shown interest in hosting, the ICC has now decided to organize the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said, “It is disappointing for Bangladesh not to host the Women's T20 World Cup as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had planned to deliver a memorable event.”
