An Alliance Air flight (91821) from Delhi to Shimla encountered a technical fault in the braking system while landing at Shimla airport on Monday morning, according to ANI. The aircraft had 44 passengers onboard, including Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and DGP Dr. Atul Verma.

Pilot Reports Brake Fault on Landing

Sources at Shimla airport confirmed that airport authorities halted the plane post-landing to investigate the issue. The pilot reported the brake malfunction during the final stages of landing.

Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri recounted the experience, stating:

“The plane didn’t land where it was supposed to. It overshot and had to veer toward the end of the runway. Strong brakes were applied, and we stayed inside the aircraft for around 20-25 minutes before disembarking.”

Alliance Air’s Ongoing Financial Struggles

The incident comes amid financial concerns surrounding Alliance Air. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the airline posted a ₹535 crore loss in the first 10 months of FY25. Between FY22 and FY24, losses totaled ₹1,633 crore.

Alliance Air, which separated from Air India during its privatization in 2022, remains a government-owned carrier. The airline operates 21 aircraft (20 ATRs and 1 Dornier), though only 10 are currently functional. The rest are grounded, awaiting repair amid ongoing supply chain issues.
