TV actress Rupali Ganguly, while talking to Ranveer Allahabadia on his show, was asked if she ever forgot herself. To this Rupali said, “Of course, but when you are at home for six and a half years as a housewife, after the birth of a child your waist suddenly becomes 40 from 24-25. You stop looking at yourself in the mirror.”
He then added that “Monisha Sarabhai” has “gained a lot of weight.”
She said, "Aunties just say this, but such things really hurt a woman who is already struggling with many things. Many things happen after delivery. I have always worked."
Rupali then said that she relates herself to Monisha Sarabhai, the iconic character of the 90s from the sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai”.
She said, "I would come home with one slipper here and the other there. I was Monisha Sarabhai. My mother raised me with a lot of love. But I was still very hardworking."
She further added, “Then you get married with a lot of responsibilities, it is not that the husband did not share the responsibilities. He was with me… and my husband never once told me that I am ugly or I am fat. I don’t think he even realized that I have grown so much.”
She said that women feel inferior.
She said, "To accept yourself, you look for plus-size clothes. Somewhere your self-image gets hurt. Somewhere you feel inferior."
