New Delhi: After a big win in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president election, Rohan Jaitley has sought details from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) as to why Delhi teams are being sent with a large number of players for various BCCI age-group tournaments.
Rohan, 35, son of late politician Arun Jaitley, got 1,577 votes while his only rival and former India player Kirti Azad got 777 votes. After officially taking charge, Rohan said that he has been informed that a large number of 25 to 30 teams have been sent for various age group events. The Cricket Advisory Committee includes former India players Gursharan Singh and Nikhil Chopra.
"When I came to know that so many players are travelling, I spoke to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). I can assure you that the matter is being looked into," Jaitley said at a press conference here.
Jaitley promised a High Performance Centre (HPC) where players will be selected from a robust talent identification system. "We are looking forward to a High Performance Centre (HPC) where talented players will be provided state-of-the-art training by our talent spotters. We focus on boosting our infrastructure and focus on grassroots cricket, especially school-level cricket," he said.
He made an ambitious claim of building a new stadium in Delhi besides the existing Feroz Shah Kotla, but did not disclose in which part of the national capital land is vacant for such a big stadium.
Before the elections, Azad had levelled allegations of financial irregularities in DDCA but Jaitley rejected his allegations and said that why was he silent for three years and why did he start making allegations only a month before the elections.
Jaitley said, "If there were any problems or discrepancies, why were they not raised in the last three years? You should not raise issues that did not exist 30 days ago keeping the elections in mind."
He said that if Azad is willing to help his committee, he would always welcome his suggestions.
