Melbourne. The Australian team, which is playing an exciting Test series against India at home, has dropped opening batsman Nathan McSweeney for the last two Test matches. The Kangaroo team, which is looking for an opening batsman after David Warner, has now included 19-year-old Sam Constas in the team for the rest of the series. The 5-Test series is tied 1-1 after 3 Tests. Constas will be Australia's youngest Test batsman in the last 70 years.
Constas got a place in the team after the poor performance of Australia's top order, especially McSweeney, in the first three Tests. 25-year-old McSweeney, who made his debut in the first Test in Perth, could not score a single half-century and scored 10, 0, 39, 10 not out, 9 and 4 in six innings. At the same time, Constas scored centuries in two Sheffield Shield matches for New South Wales.
He scored an unbeaten 73 against India A at the MCG, while he scored 107 runs in the pink ball match for Prime Minister XI against India in Canberra. Australia's chief selector George Bailey said, ‘Sam has been included in the Test team for the first time. His batting style is different. We believe that Nathan has the ability and he will get more opportunities in Test cricket in the future. The decision to keep him out was difficult.’
Australia team for fourth and fifth Tests:
Pat Cummins (C), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Constastas, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster.
