Brisbane. Australia is not ready for a draw in the third Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy being played at Gaba. It has declared the innings after losing 7 wickets for 89 runs in an attempt to score runs quickly in its second innings. It had got a lead of 185 runs on the basis of the first innings and now the Indian team, which was all out for 260 runs in the first innings, has a challenge of scoring 275 runs here. About two sessions of the game are still left to be played.
Around 54 overs are yet to be bowled and the Kangaroo team would like that even if the match is interrupted for some time due to rain, it would be an icing on the cake for them if they bowl around 40 overs and bowl out the Indian team. However, the Indian team was facing the threat of follow-on on the fourth day of the match, which was averted by Jaspreet Bumrah (10*) and Akash Deep (31) by making a crucial partnership of 47 runs for the 10th wicket.
Now once again the responsibility of saving the honour in this match is on the shoulders of the batsmen. If experienced batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma show some strength here, then India will feel happy if they do not win this match, then at least draw it and keep the series tied at 1-1.
Earlier today, when the day's play started, India lost its 10th wicket at a score of 260 in the form of Akash Deep, who was stumped by Alex Carey off Travis Head. India fell behind by 185 runs in reply to Australia's 445 runs and the Kangaroo team had decided from the beginning of its second innings that it would try to find a chance to win here by scoring 100-125 runs quickly in the style of T20 cricket and pushing India to bat again.
However, this time the Indian fast bowlers supported Jaspreet Bumrah well and tightened the screws on the Australian batsmen from the very beginning. The Kangaroo team lost its first 5 wickets for a total of just 33 runs. After this, their sixth wicket fell in the form of Travis Head at 60, while captain Pat Cummins added 22 runs in his innings of 10 balls.
Bumrah made him his third victim in this innings. After this, Australia declared their innings at 89/7d after 18 overs. Apart from Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Akash Deep also took 2-2 wickets each.
