Mumbai (Maharashtra): Prominent Youtube influencer Ranveer Allahbadia has extended an apologize on Monday for his indecent comments made during the show India’s Got Latent, reasoning that his utterances have no reason to be explained. According to the statement made by Allabadia, it is said to have followed after people got furious because of the comment he made on the show, which actually prompted a police complaint against himself and the organizer of the show.

Allabadia, who has a variety of fans on social media said in a video uploaded on X, “I apologize for uttering what I said on India’s Got Latent: I ought to say this.” “My comment was so irrelevant that it was not even funny. I am not a comedian. And, for what it’s worth, I want to declare that I am sorry,” Allahbadia said in the video.

Previously, a complaint has been filed against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina and the organizers of the spectacle India’s Got Latent as the rest seem to have made continuous and presumed defamatory and disparaging comments while attending the show.

The complaint which was lodged in the Mumbai Police Commission and the Maharashtra State Women's Commission claims that the show used abusive language. The complainant has put forth that stern action should be taken against the accused. This controversy stems from the comments made by Allahbadia during his episode of India's Got Latent which was posted on YouTube. Allahbadia’s comments were deemed offensive and derogatory.

These comments, made in a comedic fashion, have caused quite a stir. The complaint further alleges that the organizers and participants maliciously slandered women by discussing their private parts, only for fame and financial reward for the internet broadcast. The perpetrators, who were communicating in an offensive manner while starring in the broadcast that was viewable on the internet on accused women described by the complainant as primary school children and laughing with other accused where she claims is a serious offense.

The letter highlights that the comments were made specifically to generate clicks and gain revenue or notoriety without regard to the socio-cultural harm it can cause to the dignity of women and the youngsters, especially children, who would have chanced upon these words.

Regarding the incident, Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra stated, “I know about it, though I have not watched it as yet. The matter has been spoken and shown out of context. Everyone has a right to express themselves, but our expression stops where it infringes upon the expression of others. As society, rules have been set, and any person who transgresses is in the wrong and should face punishment.”

Rekha Sharma, Former NCW Chief and Rajya Sabha MP also voiced her astonishment at the comments. “This video is certainly very disturbing and I think whether it is a woman or a man, this type of mockery is never acceptable anywhere. Jokes made regarding a mother or a woman’s body is extremely vulgar and somewhere shows the moral degradation of our youth today. I do think such humorous attempts impact other people who are somewhat equally creative. I have just forwarded that video to the chairperson of NCW so that she can take appropriate steps.”

Through its spokesperson Raju Wagamare, Shiv Sena also criticized the comments made on the show.

The spokesperson gave a clear warning to the producers, “Let me make it quite explicit. In Maharashtra, under the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, this type of language will not be tolerated. They should stop all this immediately; or else we will exercise our own form of justice.”

Certainly, there is a cult of respect and being brought to protect women’s dignity and there is abuse of that respect. “Through this complaint letter, I wish to draw your attention to a highly sensitive incident. These people did not spare women’s dignity and honour. With the sheer intent to create a name for themselves and earn some money, expletive words were uttered to the lower portions of a woman’s body out of wanton.”

The letter goes on to demand legal action against the yet unrestrained organizers of “India’s Got Latent” and for the show to be banned. The complainant has specifically noted that there are some penal provisions under the Indian Penal Code which may be utilized against the creators of the paradoxical show and has said that an FIR should be lodged against all of those who were within the scene of the incident.

At the same time, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi promised to bring up the matter regarding India’s Got Latent in the standing committee for IT and Communication in Parliament. On X, Chaturvedi stated, “As a member of the standing committee on IT& Communication, I will be raising the issue regarding the show India’s Got Latent and the kind of vulgar, blasphemous so-called comedy content that is being produced. Some limits need to be set on the kind of garbage is passed off as content because these platforms shape young impressionable minds. The language that was used by Ranveer Allahabadia which was condoned by many on that so-called comedy panel is beyond reprehensible.” (With agency inputs)
