Rohit Sharma who is the captain of the Indian cricket team along with Ajit Agarkar the chief selector announced squad for the 3 matches series against England and tre ICC Champions Trophy. While worries surrounded Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, he was included in the India squad. His participation in the Australia Tests towards the tournament were concerning due to an injury that he got during the fifth test. He will not be available for the ODIs against England, and will be replaced by Harshit Rana. As for the tournament, still, his participation will rely exclusively on his fitness. Ajit Agarkar said that team will receive clear fitness update after the team gets updated on Ashish Bumrah’s fitness.

There were two players who returned for the ICC Champions Trophy as part of India’s squad and these were Mohammed Shami along with Kuldeep Yadav. There were also some worries concerning Ravindra Jadeja’s form but still, he was picked for the squad. Long lean run kept Mohammed Siraj out of the mix and he along with Karun Nair and Sanju Samson had to sit out the champions trophy.

India Introduces New Vice Captain

At the other end, the new vice-captain for India was also introduced at the ICC Champions Trophy. Pandya was the vice-captain for India during the ODI World Cup but due to selectors focusing on half the team which included a browned Gill, he was not and instead Gill was chosen to assist Sharma. Gill is in the early twenties and should India’s captain Ricky Tararan retire then he must remain perform well to clinch the captaincy. There was a surprise though as Jaiswal was chosen as the back up opener and he might play all the games.

India starts their Champions Trophy at Dubai International Stadium against Bangladesh on 20th February.
