The Indian Government's panel on improving the NCR and headings Delhi's air quality, Commission for Air Quality Management have actively decided to take serious action against the distressing levels of air pollution and smog. Reimposing measures under Stage III which is described as severe pollution and being stuck within a vicious cycle of poor AQI and smog, they tasked out a swift action plan ensuring that Steps I and II are enacted alongside with the now Stage III. The growing levels of pollution outranged the AQI benchmark of 400 to up 396 marking it to a worrying issue.

The odd weather in Delhi added to the ongoing issues, with temperatures dropping down below 6 degrees the root cause of dense fog that afflicted the national capital. The weather along with the mist caused visibility levels to diminish by an unfathomable margin. Which in turn ended causing over a hundred flights to get cancelled alongside 26 trains causing a rift in the transport classes in Delhi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a thick haze that restricted visibility to 200 metres in Safdarjung and 150 meters in Palam. The weather department said that the Palam and Safdarjung areas had calm winds alongside dense fog, the time of report being around 5:30 AM.

Runways at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) are foggy but are still operative under CAT-III conditions even with Runway Visual Range (RVR) being as low as 75 metres.

Passengers are required to confirm their flight timings with the airline in case they are boarding a CAT III non-compliant plane while Checks are being carried out for compliant ones in order to not cause delays. The above statement was provided by the airport operator, DIAL.

According to an X post made by DIAL at 7:35 AM, “Passengers are requested to get in touch with the concerned airline for real-time updates about their flight. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

An orange alert has been issued for Delhi with dense fog engulfing multiple areas in Delhi. It is expected that the moist weather coupled with rain can lead to disruption of railway and road services.

It is recommended to avoid unnesesary travels going out for driving during fog or using the fog tolu lights to avoid causign more disturbance, Also, for better travel coordination, passengers are told time and again by the authorities to remain in contact with the airlines, railways, and state transport services.

Overhead cloud cover is likely to persist throughout the day with the possibility of light rain according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

At 8:30 AM the humidity levels were recorded at 97% and it is forecasted that the temperature is likely to be around 19 degrees Celsius.
