With just hours left in his presidential tenure, Mr. Biden along with his cabinet members initiated the pardoning process for the group amid the fear that they will be punished for the crimes committed in or around the Capitol after the insurrection by the supporters of Trump’s false claims. These moves were made after Trump hinted at creating the ‘enemies list’ strategy similar to Nixon along with the nomnation of cabinet members that preceded the announcement of cabinet members claiming that soon there will be ‘retribution’ for the administration’s critics in the Trump administration.
Dr Fauci had the hardest time with Trump and his base as the latter staunchly rejected the public health measures such as masking. In the US Covid-19 response, Fauci rose to a position of prominence within the public health arena but became a polarizing figure. He was accused of draconian measures of infringing upon individual freedoms in the midst of the pandemic.
Gen Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, further exacerbated the problems in their relationship by informing the public of his attitude towards Trump during the January 6th insurrection wherein Trump was called a fascist. The testimony with these details was difinitly the turner in their relationship.
It is apparent that Biden’s pardon is aimed at securing these persons from negative legal or political consequences.
