The exciting Ranji Trophy season II commenced on January 23 2025, and one of the premier matches of this stage of the Indian domestic league is between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the new directive issued by the BCCI, these will be the first matches in which the best team members of India will also be a part of the Ranji Trophy. This has significantly boosted the profile of this round of the tournaments, as has been the case for the other international competitions. Among the prominent Indians playing for the Mumbai side are Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal faced off against the junior squad of Jammu and Kashmir and commenced the batting for Mumbai as well. They have set a record as the first Indian Test opening pair to have started an ACTIVE INDIAN TEST OPENING PAIR bat for the same Ranji Trophy side.

The pair had great expectations to perform at their peak . Nonetheless, both of them departed with single figures. While Jaiswal made just five runs, ROhit Sharma got out for 3 runs after 18 balls into his innings

Rohit Sharma has now become the first captain f India in 17 years to play any Ranji Trophy match. The other captain to do so was Anil Kumble way back in 2008 when he played for Maharashtra. This was the first time Rohit returned to domestic cricket in 7 years.

However, Rohit Sharma is not at the helm of Mumbai side as one would expect being the captain of the Country. The captain of the side is former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane who is also a seasoned international.
